Program Schedule Is
Designed To Please
WYVE's
sunrise to sunset broadcasting schedule will be comprised on a well-balanced
variety of entertainment programs, public service features and complete newscasts,
designed to meet the discriminate taste of Wythe County and Southwest Virginia.
Local talent will be used as much as possible on the programs. Several local
groups have already been lined up and negotiations with others are now underway.
The station also plans to carry some teen-age entertainment programs featuring
local talent.The new Wytheville station's record library of 6,600 selections
include topnotch classical masterworks by outstanding symphony orchestras, choral
groups and concert artists, poplar dance recordings by "name bands" and small
combos; sacred selections; well-known folk ballads, and old favorite hillbilly
tunes. From time to time the library will be supplemented by waxings of the nation's
popular songs.WYVE is currently working on a plan for night broadcast. When plans
are completed and the license approved, the station will carry all important
local athletic events, probably including most of Wytheville's baseball and football
games both at home and away.Public service features will include farm and home
programs, local government forums and complete coverage of church organizations
and civic clubs, as well as an outstanding array of religious programs.WYVE will
have 24-hour a-day United Press news service and a local reporter will also be
associated with the staff. News broadcasts giving complete coverage to events
of local, state and national significance will be regular features, in the station's
program schedule.In accordance with Federal Communications Commission regulations,
WYVE will operate on an assigned frequency of 1280 kilocycles with a power of
1000 watts. During the month of September it will be on the air from 6:00 a.m.
until 6:30 p.m.Highlights of Wytheville's first week of radio broadcast will
include the first Sunday morning worship service from a local church and the
station's dedication service slated for sometime Sunday (exact hour to be announced
over the air prior to that day).This week's church service will be by remote
broadcast from the Wytheville Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Sunday. Religious
services are to be held through the Wytheville Ministerial Association and will
include morning devotions at 9:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday; the Sunday School
lesson at 5:15 p.m., Saturday, worship service at 11:00 a.m. each Sunday and
Sunday vespers at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Mayor R. William Arthur will serve as
Master-of-Ceremonies on the dedication service Sunday. Representatives from all
of the city's clubs and organizations are expected to be on hand. Station personnel
will be introduced and Karl Peltier, local merchant and industrialist will speak
on "The Old Days In Radio." On the lighter side, entertainment will be furnished
by Robert and Hontas Sessoms, Mrs. Everett Hankla and others. After the program
a staff announcer may interview visitors at the station.Station Manager Arthur
M. Gates said today visitors will be welcome in the observation lobby between
the hours of 8:00 a.m and 5:00 p.m. on any day
